Cupertino Horse Riding Camp
We offer horse riding camps throughout the summer as well as at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break.
Cupertino Horse Riding Camp
We offer before and after care, should you need to drop your child off early or pick up late. Each participant is assigned a horse for the week, and that is who they ride each day. We find that this develops a greater rapport between horse and camper!! Our summer camp kids learn grooming, saddling, riding of course, as well as everything else that would be part of owning their own horse. They bathe the horses, learn basic horse anatomy, and get to watch a farrier shoe horses.
In addition to riding, we do arts and crafts, take nature hikes and play in some of the creeks along the trails. We are located in the beautiful Cupertino mountains, and the stable is surrounded by 100-year-old oak trees. The trails that we hike are among the most beautiful around. We hike through shady groves, lit only by sunlight filtered through the trees. If we’re lucky we will see one of the bald eagles that resides in the preserve.
Our Summer Camp Horses
Our summer camp horses are selected for their unique ability to interact with children. They are patient with beginners and they enjoy their job!!!
Snickerdoodle is a male Welsh/Thoroughbred cross, about 20 years old. He is a been there, done that horse. Snickerdoodle has started many beginners on their riding careers. He is also credited for taking more advanced students up through the ranks in pony club. He has been taken to horse shows and has done well.
Rafiki has developed a reputation for being our gentle giant. Standing 17 hands, this thoroughbred has raced and has shown successfully in dressage shows. More recently, he went through the entire sheriff’s department’s training program where he learned to walk in parades and stand still and quietly in large crowds of people.
Roxy is the newest addition to our Cupertino horse riding camp. A large pony, Roxy has a past career working with autistic kids. She kind, gentle, and patient with everyone. She retired from her first career as a pony jumper, however, still enjoys teaching kids the joy of jumping!! Her favorite pastime is to stick out her tongue and have the people surrounding her pull it.
Brooke is a quarter horse who loves kids!! She is happiest when she is working with kids. Ridden by two-year-olds as well as adults, this beautiful dark bay quarter horse is extremely versatile!!
Nutmeg is a dark chestnut quarter horse, rescued some years back by her previous owner. Nutmeg loves being decorated by kids for horse shows. She stands quietly while they braid her mane and tail and while they put stickers all over her body. She walks gently with the little ones to be sure to not lose those decorations!!
